As an artist
develops he becomes more conscious of geometrical shapes in the
structure of things. He finds that nature may not be chaotic, as
once thought, but very ordered. The study of fractals would seem to
support this. Fractals and geometric forms are compatible.
Primitive people understood nature, therefore structure, and it shows
in their art. It is highly abstract, and embodies essences of form.
Someone said
to me recently that the role of the artist is to make order out of
chaos. Perhaps it is truer to say that the role of the artist is to
find the order in nature.
