If a person
wants to make money in art, worthy of his education and training,
then there are the fields of advertising, graphic arts, cartoons,
animation, videos, illustration, and the business arts.
But this comes with a price attached to it - freedom; freedom to say
what you want, when you want, how you want, freedom of expression,
content, and lifestyle.
The fine artist can live where he wants, without what he doesn't
want.
Anger and envy are mean companions for the artist, and ones he can
do without. The best way to get rid of them is to either have
expectations fitting what he does, or else change what he does. And
this has a lot to do with how badly he needs money, or what the
money will buy.
"As soon as I heard that my work was having some success, and
read the article in question, I feared at once that I should be
punished for it; this is how things nearly always go in a painters
life: success is about the worst thing that can happen"
Vincent Van
Gogh in a postscript to his mother and sister
